I am sure some of you must be already knowing about this great initiative by Samsonite where they encourage everyone to plant trees and give back a little to Mother Earth. Like every year, this year too Samsonite’s Tree Plantation Drive was held at Igatpuri. The project is called “Khambale Vanrai” and is stretched across the vast and extensive 125 acres of land that you can see in the pictures. This land is adopted and maintained by team Samsonite and there’s a beautiful pathway that leads you here.
We left from Mumbai early morning and within 2.5 hours we reached Igatpuri, which is also known as the fog city. At this time of the year, especially in July Igatpuri receives non-stop rainfall. So if you enjoy the rains and are a nature lover then this place at this time is an ideal combination for you. A big signboard of Samsonite greets you at the entrance of this hillside property and then you have to trek your way for about a kilometer or two. Once you make it to the top, all you can see is greenery and farms all across. On these slanting hills they strategically plant trees because the roots can catch the rainwater that trickles downhill from the top by these plants and it also is beneficial in holding the soil firmly. After I climbed the hill, I forgot about all the worries and pains in the world and I was transported to another world altogether where it was just me, the red soil, saplings to be planted and rain gods blessing from above. Initially I had to take help from Samsonite’s on sights members to make sure that the compost is mixed in with the soil correctly during the plantation. Trust me, I was a natural pro at this once I got the hang of this and not to forget the amount of inner happiness I felt was so baby like.
I’ll leave you with some on-ground pictures of that day at Igatpuri. I also noticed that there were school kids in so many numbers to come and support this great cause. It is indeed amazing that team Samsonite is taking some time out to not only start a great initiative but also bring together people like us and explain the importance of tree plantations. The pure air we breathe in and the sheer fact that we need O2 for survival should be enough reasons to plant at least few trees every year. The raw beauty of this landscape at Igatpuri made me fall in love with it and I actually look forward to visiting it next year as well.
