LAKME FASHION WEEK DAY 4 2015 BEST OF WINTER/FESTIVE

On the Lakme Fashion Week Day 4, designers brought out a bustling mix of patterns from mellow to super-bold. Lakme Fashion Week Day 4 Winter/Festive 2015 became a star-studded event on 29 August, in Mumbai. While Sooraj Pancholi and Arjun Rampal charmed viewers, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput made their first appearance on the ramp together.

Popular designer Masaba Gupta’s show ‘On Your Mark’ was the highlight of the day. Shahid-Mira’s arrival and Sooraj’s first ramp walk made her show a super hit. Her unconventional designer ensembles with stylish brush strokes and great colour combinations mesmerised the viewers.

Supermodel Ujjwala Raut turned a showstopper for Monisha Jaisingh and flaunted the creation with a lot of glam and galore at Lakme Fashion Week Day 4 2015, Arjun Rampal, Dia Mirza, Shriya Saran, Aditi Rao Hydari, Ayushmann Khurrana and several other celebs attended the Lakme Fashion Week Day 4 event.

Striking gold: Nitya Arora and Urvashi Kaur

Finally something different! Influenced by her muse, the bejeweled dark fantasy ‘Victoria’ collection by Nitya Arora for her ‘Valliyan’ label presented an opulent hard-hitting stylish jewelry line at Lakme Fashion Week Day 4 Winter/Festive 2015. For such a high voltage title, the jewellery in brass and gun-metal was big and affluent in appearance but revealed dark undertones inspired by Gothic Architecture.

Thread tassels, feathers, antique gold plating and black rhodium created the eye-catching highlights. Swarovski crystals, semi-precious and colored stones and glass recreated the stain glass effects on the jewelry; while pearls added the glamour to the ornaments.

Urvashi Kaur

After the dark and dazzling show, what followed were designer Urvashi Kaur’s designs in pastel – earthy and pleasing to the eye. We loved that everything was wearable. Simple and elegant, the line featured long raw silk kurtis in earthy shades along with Kimono-style wraps with judo belts, flared pants with neat, contemporary cuts and traditional Jamdani style of weaving and block prints. The fabrics used were khadi, wool, denim, cotton and linen which made every outfit look airy and high on comfort. Look her up now.

A tale of triangles and patchwork: Mrinalini Chandra, Nitin Chawla and Munkee. See. Munkee. Doo

The day started with Mrinalini Chandra showcasing her jewellery line, Mathematics of Sort. The line made use of techniques like navratana, jadai and nakashi. We loved the necklaces that stretched from neck to navel and the linked triangles that worked beautifully as hair and ear accessories. The large chunky pieces were dramatic and made an impact, and the funky waistbands added a lovely modern touch.

Next in line was Nitin Chawla’s label, Theorem, which showcased a line called Opposites Attract. Though mostly average, the collection had an interesting camouflage detachable zipper-sleeve jacket for men, and pretty floral biker jackets for the ladies.

The surprise at the end of this show was the collection by the Munkee.See.Munkee.Doo label by Teresa Laisom and Utsav Pradhan. The free flowing outfits had a casual appeal and we loved the use of appliqué. While most of the collection was monochromatic, there were hints of pale grey, pink and lilac. The midis with patch-work pockets are a must for any wardrobe.

Let there be light: Namrata Joshipura

Lakme Fashion Week Day 4

Taking inspiration from the title sponsor’s latest range of skin lightening cream and mineral powder, Delhi-based designer Namrata Joshipura’s show turned out to be a high-voltage light-and-sound spectacle, though lacking in substance. Dressed in swimwear, four models with strategically placed lit bulbs on their bodice opened the show and created quite an impact as the LED lights glided down the runway in pitch darkness. Once the lights came on, the models wearing ear accessories, that were also lit up, took to the runway in a mechanical fashion. With a breezy colour palette of white, light pastel blue and purple, the collection packed in cocktail gowns with thigh-high slits, one-piece swimsuits, micro shorts, asymmetric wraps, formal jumpsuits and flared pants.

Saree gets a reinvention: Masaba Gupta

With a dramatic stage setting that went perfectly well with her collection inspired by art, designer Masaba Gupta’s collection, On Your Mark, was a mixed bag. While we loved the idea of the vibrant dash of colours that resembled brush strokes, the tribute to MF Hussain with the horse print and the starting blocks on the race track, were uninspiring.

The front-tie-up maxi shirt, baby doll poncho dress and the capes with tulle pants were refreshing in their silhouettes. We also liked the innovative saris worn with fitted dresses, mini skirts and blouses. It was all easy to wear, especially the interesting tube dresses, cropped pants and asymmetric shirts.

This all-women line had a male showstopper. Sooraj Pancholi may be the flavour of the month, but the black and white printed jacket with a two-button tab closure, white shirt and dark trousers that he wore failed to impress.

Actor Arjun Rampal has always known how to look good on ramp. He continued that streak by walking for an European luxury footwear brand on Saturday.

A Grand Entry: Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput

Lakme Fashion Week Day 4

Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai on Friday night for their friend and designer Masaba Gupta. Shahid and Mira made a grand entry hand-in-hand before the show, but quickly settled down at their front row seats without indulging in much fan-fare.
