A Journey Of Trust And Belief

We all know special people who stick by us and will be there for us no matter what, with whom we have built a solid relationship based on trust. For my family and me that person is Datta. It has been years now that Datta has been with us and looked after our society. Each and every person living in it feels like we are part of his own family. I know for a fact that this job does take a toll on him due to the hectic timings, the work he puts in and the countless hours he spends running around from the top floor to the parking lot. One thing that has been constant through the years is Datta’s never complaining attitude. After all, over the years, he has become a part and parcel of our lives. For that to happen, each day turned into weeks, months and years, in turn making our bond stronger than ever. Trust is something that is built over years of understanding each other, having each other’s back and can only happen over a long period of time. There are indeed no short cuts when it comes to trust.

In this fast paced life that we lead, we never care to stop, take a while and be there for each other and giving back in any small or big way. For those countless number of times he got up and has opened the gate for us at 2 a.m., called us to give us a reminder about the car cover or moved our car when required to save us the trouble, all this really means a lot. These small yet caring acts have silently developed a bond of trust between my family and him. I personally feel that he is the only constant positive force in the building we live in. Whether there is a downpour of non-stop Mumbai rains or on hot summer days, he is always unstoppable. It is rare that he ever will take a sick day off or will miss out on his work. I know this because I have seen him myself on days when he wasn’t feeling well. My relatives, guests and friends know him and ask about him whenever they visit us. This is what a personal connection and trust built over the years does. People remember you for your good, down to earth and selfless nature and also how you made them feel. Allowing someone to depend on you is a big responsibility and he has held his own for years now.

He makes us feel safe and secured. After all, trust isn’t built overnight. It is a gradual process of always being there. Even though at times it may require you to go out of your way and be nice to someone. I cannot even imagine what would we do without Datta having our back. In a city like Mumbai to find someone besides our family to depend on is not only rare but is indeed magical. He is special and kind and his acts of kindness are infectious.
