Grand Hyatt Mumbai sure knows how to keep their patrons happy and how! We have been a part of all their previous fests, including the recent cake mixing ceremony, which was a big big hit. This time around they decided to re-invent Germany’s most sought after festival with their personal twist with the Grand OctoBier Fest which is on from 14th – 23rd October 2016. Ever wonder how did it all start? Well, all the way back in 1810, the world saw its very first grand funfair which actually was the Grand Wedding to celebrate the 12th wedding of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon princess – Hildburghausen Therese. These 5 days of the OctoBier Fest were actually the 5 days of their Wedding Celebrations back then, where every single citizen in Munich was invited. Fun isn’t it?
Here at Grand Hyatt Mumbai, a traditional OctoBier Tent welcomes you with beer barrels right at the entrance itself. You can dive into the specially crafted Bavarian delights and some of the finest brews from around the world. I like how they have transformed the outside space into a Bavarian heaven.
If you have been to their outdoor parties, you will almost not recognize this place. It has the same open tents, fences and benches that are made from scratch at Grand Hyatt. This year’s footfall at the Munich Oktober Fest was 5.6 million plus people and every year the love for this fest keeps on increasing from across the globe. It doesn’t get any grander and bigger than this Grand OctoBier Fest. Same festivities and traditions are re-created by Grand Hyatt Mumbai through their Grand OctoBier Fest.
A traditional and well-known Bavarian band – ‘Talbachbuam’, was flown down to Mumbai all the way from Munich at Grand Hyatt Mumbai to perform live for all the guests joining in on the Grand OctoBier Fest. They will be present at the venue right upto 23rd October. Don’t forget to make eye-contact with your drinking compatriots as you raise your beer glasses and clink them together shouting “PROST” (Cheers) a tradition followed in Munich.
All the staff members are dressed in the very famous traditional Bavarian garb. Lederhosen (a pair of shorts or three-quarter-length pants) and leather suspenders with a front cross strap with white shits and long socks and boots are the must haves for men. The Trachten hat (Typical German Style hiking hat) is another favourite accessory donned by the men. Women’s must haves consist of a bodice, blouse, and a long skirt covered by apron. One interesting and a fun fact – How they tie their bow signifies your relationship status: left means single; right means taken.
There’s freshly served Bavarian delicacies everywhere!!!! Have a look –
Chicken & Pork Wiener Schnitzel, German Pretzels, Chicken Cheese / Pork Frankfurter Mustard, Oven Fresh Dough Breads, Fresh Horseradish, Goulash (lamb goulash was my favourite), “Roasted Bratwurst” mashed potatoes, sour kraut; “Goulash” Lamb Goulash with spätzle, German cold cut – cheese platter with a typical German Pumpernickel Bread and many more.
A special thank you to Chef Hermann Grossbichler and his team for this amazing OctoBier Fest meal. As for the beers, dive right into their International & Domestic beers including the special OctoBier Fest bier Marzen.
