Chettinad Food is a true feast for the gourmet. Renaissance Mumbai brings for its patrons a Chettinad Food Festival that is on right upto 19th April at their Lake View Cafe. I for one am a big fan of the spices and a fiery tadka like the Chettiar Food, is my food heaven in literal sense. I had first tasted this cuisine thanks to a friend of mine who hails from Tamil Nadu. I still remember the Chicken Pepper Fry I had at their place few years ago. It was fiery, tasty as hell and served on a banana leaf.
Here I was back to this tasty and unique cuisine that masters the art of the mix of spices. Chettinad Cuisine was actually considered a feast for the rich class people in Tamil Nadu and it is only in the recent years that it has been introduced to many regions in Tamilnadu and in other parts of the country too. What I loved the most about the Chettinad Food Festival was the several options it presents to both veggie lovers and meat eaters. You name it and they have it. Right from the soups, salads, appetizers, main course and some traditional desserts, your Chettinad Cuisine search should come to an end right here with all the right options.
Chef Leneesh Chandran was kind enough to show us around and describe each and every dish with so much zest, listing out all the miniscule detailing that went into the preparations.
We loved the traditional welcome drink called “Elaner Charru” that was a fresh coconut milk mixed with some organic jaggery. It gives you just the right appetite for the spicy Chettinad Food coming ahead.
The live counters for the authentic Tamil Nadu food consisted of Chicken Malliga that includes red chillies and coriander paste, Palkandi that consists of paneer, Appams, and Kuttu Parathas. I totally loved the red gravy prawns preparation and pan seared king fish topped with bed of spinach, butter and asparagus. The chakra pongal (rice kheer) was the apt finish to this Chettinad Cuisine feast.
These were a few other dishes at the Chettinad Food Festival
I also tried the ice rolled dark chocolate mixed ice-cream as I walked out towards the picturesque lake by my side.
Chettinad has always been known for its culinary delights and this Cuisine definitely needs to be given a fair chance if you are a fan of the South Indian Cuisine. The Lake View Cafe has the Chettinad Food Festival on right upto 19th April.
