The House in Versova is a quaint little place with cozy corners and lip-smacking food. The fact that it lies right opposite Versova Beach and has an open terrace area on the first floor, it automatically becomes a perfect place to hangout with your friends or plan parties. This time around The House decided to step out of their comfort zone and give all the Mumbaikars a taste of the authentic Bengali Cuisine curated by Jayeeta. So for all you Bengali food lovers here’s a look into what the authentic thali consisted of during the 3 day Bengali Food Festival at The House.
Bengali Veg Thali – Cholar Dal, Brinjal Fry, Aloo Posto (poppy seeds), Paneer with Coconut and Cashew Gravy, Cauliflower Curry (Mustard and Poppy Seeds), Rice, Luchi, Sweet Tomato Chutney, Misti Doi
Bengali Non – Veg Thali – Cholar Dal, Brinjal fry, Aloo Posto (poppy seeds), Mutton Kosha/ Chicken Kosha, Fish Paturi, Rice, Luchi, Sweet Tomato Chutney, Misti Doi
We tried the Non – Veg Thali and we loved how Chef Jayeeta had balanced out the Bengali flavours perfectly to suit to every person’s taste. Our personal favourites were the Brinjal Fry, Fish Paturi, Luchi and Mutton Kosha.
The Mutton Kosha is also known as Kosha Mangsho and its rich velvety gravy makes it a sumptuous Bengali dish cooked in mustard oil with juicy mutton pieces, which makes it a celebratory dish. Fish Paturi is again prepared in mustard paste post marinating it in the same, wrapping in banana leaves and then steaming it. It is one of the healthiest Bengali delicacies.Luchi is a deep fried flatbread, which is made using wheat flour and is a common replacement of rotis in Bengali Cuisine. It tastes the best with Aloo Posto. We also tried the Bengali white kheer, which is made using rice, and Jayeeta had just outdone herself by whipping up each and every dish that went into the Bengali Food Festival at The House.
Nothing brings me more happiness than self-driven women who exactly know how to chase their dreams and turn them into a reality one dream at a time!!! Jayeeta is definitely one of them and I can say that because I know her personally and she cooks just as she sings, with all her HEART!!! Cant wait to see what does she whip up next.

The very list of food served made my mouth water! How I miss the “kosha mangsho” and “posto”. I wish I was there.
May be next time when I am in Mumbai.
