The biggest fashion showcasing of the world saw some jaw-dropping Autumn-Winter 2018 trends that can and are easily carried across all around the year. I particularly loved how fierce this year’s showcase was and team Sassy Shif Says takes privilege as being the only Indian bloggers there covering New York Fashion Week AW 2018 that took place earlier this year. Day 2 was LIT with couture driven stories on the New York ramp entwined with women’s stories conquering USA in the recent past. I am so proud, happy and emotional all at once, just by being a part of something so great and legendary especially in this era where women are continuously striving to create an equal workspace in so many different fields. It brings me tremendous joy to see New York Fashion Week AW 2018 lead by example by presenting such diverse collections that also talk about real women’s stories and achievements and also take you beyond fashion and designs.
To name a few, these were the brands who’s designs caught my attention along with my other front-row attendees: Marc Jacobs presented ready-to-wear haute couture that played with sculptural drama and catered to so many different shapes and sizes. Carolina Herrera show was all about American glamour but with an important practicality element attached to it. Calvin Klein clearly made a statement with those thigh-high rubber hazmat boots & hand-knit balaclavas. I was blown away and was completely in awe of the fashion showcasing presented by The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). The HKTDC is dedicated to creating opportunities and platforms for Hong Kong’s businesses. They also brought three Hong Kong fashion labels to launch their latest Autumn Winter 2018 Collections at New York Fashion Week. I was thrilled like a little bunny to witness all the grandeur and bring for you guys all the LIVE updates across all my handles from the front row baby, alongside many other fashionistas and Hollywood’s A-List celebs across the globe.
The three Hong Kong Labels that were a part of Fashion Hong Kong’s runway show were – ANVEGLOSA established by Annette Chan, Harrison Wong founded by Harrison Wong and Heaven Please+ that was formed by Yi Chan and Lary Cheung.
ANVEGLOSA’s designs were so contemporary and they nailed all the leather wear pieces with such class and ease. Their Autumn/Winter 2018 Collection was called L’Opéra and it is synonymous with the celebration of theatrical art that offers women the opportunity to explore their creativity. Have a look at their designs for yourself :
HARRISON WONG’s collection stole my heart and his designs were so original and contemporary. The inspiration behind his presentation was “Gradations” from the mid-20th century abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, whose exceptional work and art consisted of playful colours with hues of greys and blacks.
Heaven Please+ debuted in 2012 and I love their silhouette detailing the most. This collection was heavily inspired by the novel by noted Hong Kong writer Liu Yichang, Wrong Number and was named as – DăCuòLe Vol. I. They re-mixed 50’s Western style with Hong Kong street style and the merger was bang on.
Concept Korea’s Fashion showcasing was one of my personal favourites from the Fall Winter 2018 collection showcased at the NYFW!! LIE by Chung Chung Lee and GREEDILOUS by Younhee Park were the designers who showed their Fall/Winter 2018 collection at Spring Studios, Gallery 1. I love the fact that Concept Korea has been providing a global platform to South Korea’s budding talent and giving them the excellent platform through NYFW.
LIE made its second NYFW appearance with the F/W18 collection, “GLOBAL WARMING; It’s not justICE.” The collection delivered such an important message “it’s not just ice” that is affected by the devastations of global warming. I was thrilled to witness in person the collapsing unity between humans and nature with his designs.
GREEDILICIOUS collection was inspired by “beauty in women” with an added dash of glamour. Both the designers showed 25 looks with hair and makeup provided by Aveda.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this special fashionable article and now, how can I let you guys go without giving you a break-down of what yours truly was wearing on this day right?? I opted for a double layered outfit to keep me warm and stylish at the same time. The monochrome knit skater dress along with the olive green leather jacket was from TrendLend NYC and the boots were from BearPaw Style. I added some black stockings + a deep brown vintage fur jacket to complete my look. Bandana, is again a street buy which by the way was a total savior, as that was my unique street style take on the entire look. I tried mixing Mumbaiyya style with New Yorker elements to what I wore on the day 2 of New York Fashion Week AW 2018.
Keep a lookout for the next set of articles for the remaining days of the New York Fashion Week AW 2018.
