The LIVA Protégé 2015 Finale took place at St. Regis Hotel, Mumbai on 23rd December 2015. It was conceptualized with the 12 shortlisted contestants from 6 cities across India. The final 12 contestants were shortlisted from 50+ leading fashion design institutes and 100+ budding design students that went through 4 grueling rounds leading up to the finale. Starting from this year, LIVA Protégé will be a pan India contest to find the most talented fashion designers in the country. They kick-started their first edition of the LIVA Protégé 2015 with the finale.
LIVA has stepped into the fashion industry as one of the most sought after fabrics. Liva is the new age fabric, which is feminine and fluid and has been made from the house of Birla Cellulose. This fabric is a perfect blend of comfort, fluidity, silhouette and fall. It actually understands the fashionable needs of today’s woman. Liva Protégé 2015 aims to bring the perfect fabric to the vast pool of talented and budding designers in the country and give them the platform to showcase their designs made from the LIVA fabric. All the 12 contestants presented their collections, which had different themes and stories weaved through their designs. The designer contestants were provided with 1 mentor each city so that these budding designers reach to their full potential under their guidance and represent India on an international level with their designs and creativity using liva fabric.
The Mentors at the LIVA Protege 2015 Finale:
- Shruti Sancheti – She mentored Mumbai designers. She is known for her class apart designs and contemporary styling. Her brand focuses on timeless clothes and luxurious collections are an important part of her designs. She has also showcased her creations at the Lakme Fashion Week and the Amazon Fashion Week.
- Sahil Kochhar – He mentored Delhi designers and he is known for the rich cultural heritage showcasing in his designs. He is retailing his designs with some of the most leading stores of our country – Aza, Anantam, Nautanky, etc.
- Soham Dave – He mentored Ahmedabad designers. He has studied fashion from NIFT and he runs his own family oriented retail fashion business since 2003.
- Chaitanya Rao – He mentored Chennai designers. Ruling the south fashion fraternity he is the go to designer for all Tollywood celebrities.
- Manoviraj Khosla – He was a mentor to the Bengaluru contestants. He runs his own label called “Manoviraj Khosla” since 1990 and he is well known for his line of sporty clothes, designed under the label of Kingfisher.
As you can see in the pictures as well, I am listing below the various design’s themes that the contestants opted for in the Finale of the LIVA Protege 2015
Manasa Sundravadhanam (Chennai Finalist) – Her theme was Warli – Journey of triangles. She gave such a contemporary spin to the Warli art and added some ethnic touch to the chic eveningwear with her designs.
Gayatri J (Chennai Finalist) – She chose to opt for the theme Dark Journey and she chose a darker palette for her fluid LIVA Fabric to stand out and give the woman of substance just the necessary fluid fashion.
Pragya Sharma (Delhi Finalist) – Her theme was Maati, which was an ethereal transition into our cultural values. Just as the theme suggests, her designs had every bit of the maati shade in them.
Shubhi Aggraval (Delhi Finalist) – She had a bold theme of Narcissism. She used Liva fabric in a very unique way to rename all the cocktail dressings with so much style and finesse.
Ankesha Yadav (Bengaluru Finalist) – Blank Space was the theme of her designs and she presented us with an exceptional take on the monochrome craze with the liva fabric stitched to perfection for all your parties.
Sagrika Joshi (Bengaluru Finalist) –Taraxacum was the theme and she had one head turner outfit than the other. Check out the jaw dropping collection right here.
Riturana Deori (Ahmedabad Finalist) – He chose his theme as Melancholia and his liva fashion outfits were emphasizing on the darker shades of blue and blacks. His long silhouettes and the drapings were on-point with every creation.
Nitin Gupta (Ahmedabad Finalist) – His unique theme was Pink City Blue Tale, where he showcased an excellent collection in different shades of blue against the Rajasthani backdrop.
Tapaswini Behera (Kolkatta Finalist) – UFO’s with tulips was her theme and this was by far one of the most colourful collections of the night.
Sweta Rai (Kolkatta Finalist) – Her theme was Marrakech. She presented some funky prints and bolder patterns that looked marvelous with the fluid liva fabric.
Jasmine Aujla (Mumbai Finalist) – Road to Morocco was the theme she went ahead with. I personally loved the colour palette she chose along with the different patterns of long and flowyliva fabric in different cocktail dressings.
Diksha Singh (Mumbai Finalist) – Ganges Glamour was her theme set against the heartlands of our country with some modern twist to our ethnic wear.
They had some freestyle contemporary performances too that lifted up everyone’s spirits.
Finally, the esteemed panel of judges that selected the final 3 are : Soha Ali Khan Pataudi, Fashion Designer Narendra Kumar, Fashion Photographer Prasad Naik, Editor Of India edition of Cosmopolitan magazine Nandini Bhalla and Founder and Chair Person of Svantantra Micro Finance Ms. Ananyashree Birla.
Each and every designer had such an excellent creations showcasing with such immense talent from different parts of the country. I am sure the judges had a tough time deciding the final winners that were – 1st Riturana Deori, from Ahmedabad, 2nd Nitin Gupta, from Ahmedabad & 3rd Sagarika, from Bengaluru.
