Day 2 at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016 was all about sustainable fashion with Indian textiles and handlooms. Indian Textiles Day has been emerging as one of the most ethical, responsible and conscious fashion choices since past few years of it’s showcasing. The creations and designs presented on this day were eclectic and offbeat and it definitely struck a chord amongst those who appreciate sustainable fashion. The show opened with the traditional Assamese dance form called Sattriya by three youngsters Nupur, Nikita and Gunjan Talwar who kept the tempo of the show just right through the collection.
The day started with Naturally Anuradha that was presented by Anuradha Pedu who showcased a mix of dupattas, sarees and scarves in a wide range of colours.
Pranami Kalita who marked her debut at LFW 2016 presented Pariah by Pranami and her collection embodied all indigenous silks that are renowned in Assam.
To empower the women of the Bodo tribe Aagor By Ants Craft NGO provided them with all the support, love and a platform to showcase fabulous hand weaved Indian textiles. Have a look at some of their mesmerising creations. Sarah Jane Dias rocked the multi-coloured long skirt as a showstopper.
Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama showcased her latest collection ‘Minus6.5’ for her brand P.E.L.L.A. The Cashmere, Pashmina, Jamdani, Eri silk was perfect to be worn all year round.
Padmaja Krishnan’s ‘Loom of My Mind’ collection presented never seen before sustainable fashion weaved in Maheshwar.

The Runaway Bicycle by a debutant Preeti Verma showcased her “Working Hours” collection, which looked like a set straight out of an old Hollywood film, which is here to charm you. Her collection focused on the professions of the old era, that revolved around organic fabrics.
Designers Jason Anshu for their label “The Small Shop”, showcased “Planet Love” which was a vibrant and a whimsical journey with sustainability at the core. They presented 12 outfits that were a part of the “Planet Love” Limited Edition Collection which was a blend of unique designs, handwork and raw fabrics.
MSA Cloth and India: Fashioning Histories with Mayank Mansingh Kaul and Monisha Ahmed
MARG Publication’s “Cloth And India” was one of the highlights of the Indian Textiles Day at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016. The book is guest edited by India’s leading textile curator and writer, Mayank Mansingh Kaul along with textile historian and former associate editor at MARG publications, Monisha Ahmed. Top 8 designers of our country showcased their collections under that highlighted various eras of Indian fashion and its history. Especially the post-independence period all the way to the present which also happens to be the theme of the publication.
To create a visual presentation of the event, eight top designers of India presented their creations to highlight the various periods of Indian fashion history from the post-independence era to the present times, which is the theme of the publication being launched.
Kaleekal’s showcasing at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016 was a combination of elongated sleeves, suits and separates, distressed fashion which is anti-fit yet tailor made to highlight the raw fashion. I loved this flavour they presented.
Kallol Datta’s show was innovation at par. This show was a peek into his personal creative space with ideas that are magic and edgy style.
“THE SARI IN US” By Anavila Misra
Anavila Misra presented conceptual collection where she completely transformed festive and traditional sarees for Indian women. The saree was draped in such a way that it suited women of all age and size and anyone could carry it off with complete ease. White linen sarees decorated with zari in jamdani were sheer beauty and selvedge paired with ruffled blouses cast a romantic feel. Anavila Misra collection was one of my favourite show of the day.
The Lot P6 Monaco Tourism presents Sanjay Garg
The beautiful charming textiles by ace designer Sanjay Garg for his label ‘Raw Mango’ were presented in his show called “Monkey Business” by Monaco Tourism. It was the perfect end to the Sustainable Fashion and Indian Textiles Day at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016. The show was inspired by mischief-maker – the monkey. Sanjay used beautiful varieties of weaves from Varanasi and Chanderi to present easy to wear and glamorous garments.
Now coming to what I chose to wear on Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016. Kept it super comfy, casual with a dash of shimmer in the form of a cardigan from Besiva India. The maxi dress is from the latest Autimn-Winter Collection by Being Human & it comes with a drawstring to help you tie accordingly for a perfect fit at the waist. The off-white carry all bag and white wedges are from the new ins by Lavie. Gonna post a detailed lookbook of all the 5 Days of LFW 2016.
