The country’s biggest Fashion Showcasing is back once again with a bang. I was lucky to be a part of the special Preview by Manish Malhotra for Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016 that was held at ITC Grand Central in Mumbai. A Bloggers Round Table Conference with Manish Malhotra himself followed it. Catch all the action right here incase you missed out on it.
Day 1 of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016 saw such trendy outfits and some never seen before fashion inspirations that are here to stay. So catch all the hottest trends this Season right here and take a look at what Day 1 had to offer.
It started off with designers INIFD Presents Gen Next. From comfort-friendly silhouettes to smart layering and utilitarian jackets, Gen Next designers put a fresh spin on everyday dressing. We liked the vintage, pleated herringbone wool pants from Gaurav Khanijo’s ‘Morpheus’ collection, which lent a contemporary twist to the otherwise traditional collection. We also approved of Paridhi Jaipuria’s collection ‘Bunai’ which featured Indian artisanship and the beautiful craft of hand weaving.

Trapezoid By Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks.
The trapezoid shape goes way back to the ancient times when Egyptians and Indian temples used this geometric form to draw doors, archways and windows. Schulen Fernandes for Wendell Rodricks has used this ancient trapezoid form in fashion and the outcome is for the world to see.
The paneled capes, 3D panel extensions, patched striped panels used in linen, paper silk, flower petal dyed mul was a classic example of what sheer X-ray effects can do. The collection is crafted to fit different shapes and sizes of women and that is something they showcased beautifully through their runway models too. Have a look at some of my personal favourites.
(Ka)(Sha)
Blazer on sarees has always been one fashion trend that is bold, daring yet has a smart layering option to it. I always wanted to try this trend. Hopefully I get to do this sooner. Karishma Shahani Khan’s Label saw an inspiring collection that consisted of soft silhouettes, layering options, tie-dye patterns and plentiful tassels. Her outfits were a breath of fresh air.
Antar-Agni
Antar-Agni, a label by Ujjawal Dubey showcased men’s fashion like never before. I am so glad that this season men’s fashion has received so much attention. Antar Agni was a black tale, which saw some interesting cuts and drapes. The asymmetrical kurtas, black on black layering, baggy pants and geometrical outfits were so suave and classy.
Myoho
Myoho made sure that they stand in sync with the vibes of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016. Right from the hand-fan earrings to the merger of Indian women’s fashion before the independence topped with European style. The outcome was unique and oh so stylish! I loved their gathered skirts and the pleated elegance their designs presented.
Madness By Quirkbox
Quirkbox called their collection “Madness” for a reason. Firstly the technique of projecting polychromatic art directly onto the outfits was so cool and full of colours. Secondly, all their prints and colours were totally offbeat, funky and so young.
I liked the metal detailing on their collection that according to me added a perfect dash of madness to their festive winter showcasing.
Shift / Atsu
We saw designer Atsu Sekhose presenting his collection after quite sometime at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016. His collection highlighted the authentic black and white stripes on Naga shawls, which was the source of his inspiration.
He presented an aesthetic showcasing that was inspired Nagaland. Supermodel Ketholeno Kense, who is from Nagaland, opened the show.
Etihad Airways Presents Manish Malhotra
The grand end to day 1 by the man who breathes fashion every single minute and he is driven by nothing but the passion for his art. His preview was such a big hit and the fusion of modern designs with Indian embroidery was heaven for all the brides to be.
For Day 1 of Lakme Fashion Week Festive Winter 2016 I opted for a netted and lacy affair blended beautifully in black and maroon shades by Karleo Fashion I loved the lace detailing and the contrast buttons on the upper body. The lacy back and a perfect fit is what made this outfit an absolute favourite for Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016.
I completed my look with a clutch sling from Label kiss and handcrafted tassels neckpiece from Opa Accessories.
