Bajrangi Bhaijaan turned out to be one of the biggest grossing film already crossing Rs. 350 crores worldwide. Most of Salman Khan film’s success revolves around his charm and his millions of followers blindly seeing his films multiple times. The success of his films rarely have anything to do with a good script or acting skills or well anything else that makes a good film. Well Bajrangi Bhaijaan really surprised me.
Here are 10 Reasons why I think Bajrangi Bhaijaan was one of Salman Khan’s best Performance as an actor till date:
- Salman Khan as Bajrangi Bhaijaan:
This has been by far one of the best performances Salman Khan has given. Typical Salman Khan films have Salman over acting, being loud and very animated while kicking ass, ripping his shirt and saying one-liners. He has done none of that in this film. I would go so far as to say he has in fact under played his character and toned down a lot in this film. Yet he has managed to remain funny and charming. I wish he would do more movies like this, that I might actually go and watch them in theatres again.
- Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Chemistry’s –
This film reminded me a lot of his film Bodygaurd. Salman and Kareena’s chemistry is very similar to what we saw in Bodyguard. Even their characters are similar in nature, Salman being sober while Kareena being the dominating stronger between the two. They don’t have too much screen time together but the time they do spend together is total adorbs and puppy love. Salman and Kareena have always made a good pairing and have complemented each others performance. - The Little girl –
Harshali Malhotra has stolen the show with her amazing performance as the lost child “Shahida/Munni”. Playing a character who is unable to speak and too young to read, this little wonder has performed so well that I was taken aback. She has emoted so well just with her expressions, eyes and body language. Not to mention she is sooo freaking cute. Everything she does is so adorable you feel like jumping into the screen and hugging her :D. - Salman’s love for kids –
Salman Khan loves kids. This is abundantly clear from all the initiatives he has taken to help children. The scenes in which Salman Khan is with little Harshali look extremely genuine. You can really see how happy Salman is during those scenes and there is one scene where the child is taken to a brothel and Salman comes to save her. The intensity in his acting just blew me away. That entire sequence felt so real and authentic and is definitely one of the best moments of the film. - Salman’s Character being overly Innocent –
There is a certain Naivety in his character. He never lies, believes people easily and doesn’t break the rules. He is more calm and composed in the film compared to some of his other films where he plays this bad boy who is in it to win it type. The very first scene in the film establishes his character as someone not good at fighting or very brilliant. All he has in abundance is a lot of heart and that is what Bajrangi Bhaijaan is all about. - Very little Over the Top action –
This is probably my favourite thing about the film. Salman Khan is not running around beating up 30 guys in one scene with random and most of the time stupid action sequences. There are so many situations in the film that can be solved with violence but he doesn’t resort to it. There are just 2 scenes where we see Salman kick some ass and both have been done really well even though they were a bit over the top. He only raised his hand when the little girl was in deep peril and there were no cheesy dialogues or over the top screaming and drama.
- The Script –
The Story for the most seems original even if some scenes may be inspired from other films. The Film doesn’t drag on despite being lengthy and at no point feels boring. The sequence of events that happen in the film right from the little girl getting left behind and how she meets Salman, all feel very well explained and justified. The sequence of how they find the girl’s mother and overall progression of the story doesn’t feel filmy at all. Kabir Khan the Director has done a good job with the pace and story of the film. Even the scene where you know at the end the Little girl is going to talk and calls out to Salman as he is crossing the border back to India. You know its going to happen but when she musters the will and shouts to him, I could feel something inside me move. It was just brilliant and if this movie doesn’t move you and make you tear up, well I don’t know what will :).
- The Songs –
The Selfie song is pretty catchy and a crowd favourite. I personally loved “Tu Chahiye” by Atif Aslam and “Zindagi Kuch toh bata” by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Rekha Bhardwaj. There is a good mix of soulful songs with some fun and light songs like the “Chicken Song” and a party number with “Aaj Ki Party” by Mika Singh. Overall good music.
- The Supporting Cast-
It takes a good script, talented lead actors, good music and yes no movie can be excel without an all rounded Supporting Cast. Any good film needs all these things and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is no different. Nawazuddin Siddiqui who plays the role of a Pakistani reporter, ends up helping Salman Khan in Pakistan to find the lost girl’s home. He has once again with this role proved that he is an actor of par excellence. His performance feels very natural and the audience connects with him from his first appearance on screen. With a small guest appearance by Om Puri as the Maulana Saab and Meher Vij as Shahida’s mother are very well acted.
- Bajrangi Bhaijaan brings nations and religions together –
The sheer fact that, this film brought together people of all castes, regions & countries on Eid and made them laugh, smile, cry and dance along says a lot. This is one of those rarest rare moments in Bollywood, where the film had a soul and it knew only one language – HUMANITY!!
This is exactly why Bajrangi Bhaijaan is such a good film and definitely is worthy of all the accolades it is receiving. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend you go watch it and support this gem of a movie with all your heart.
