Here’s a woman I believe is completely with a cause. Being born in a family where her mother abandoned her acting ambitions to raise her kids. Despite being brought up by a supportive single mom, a father’s non-existence made her go through hell. Right from a very young age Angelina Jolie made her fight against an array of destructive & complicated situations that life threw at her. Right from insomnia, an eating disorder to the urge to self-harm, drugs addiction, suicidal attempts, being admitted to a psychiatric ward, she’s come out a winner in all these situations.
Angelina Jolie first adopted at the age of 26 which became her anchor in life and her life revolved around this child. A woman who has overcome life’s biggest hurdles and has contributed so much in the field of fashion, acting & Humanitarian work. Hats off to such a woman & her spirit.
I remember being thoroughly taken aback & being in awe of her break through performances in films like The Might Heart, Changeling, Girl Uninterrupted, The Tourist, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Salt. Each & every character Angelina Jolie portrayed has left an impression of this ideal & swift action girl packed with power performance for me to look up to who further went on to strengthen her image with every film, & it all started with Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I don’t think any other actress could bring in that addition of life experiences to her roles which she brought along. Along with being a fashion icon, an Academy award winning actress, she has also been a humanitarian spokespersons for various charities and supports many causes.
Angelina Jolie was recently, seen at the Nickelodeon awards show with her adorable daughters Shiloh and Zahara (The pic is what caught my eye)and also not to forget the speech which she gave after winning “Best Villain” for her performance in “Maleficent.”
(Jolie is seen sitting with her kids – Shiloh and Zahara)
She said it with a smile for all the young minds there – “BEING DIFFERENT IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF!” After she thanked all the little kids who voted for her she continued saying – “I want to say that when I was little, like Maleficent, I was told that I was different. I felt out of place — too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in. And then one day I realized something — something that I hope you all realize. Different is good. When someone tells you that you are different, smile and hold your head up and be proud”. This is why she again reinforces my choice of looking upto her. My, what a woman of substance!
She very quickly also quoted from the character which earned her award, Maleficent, she said: “And as your villain, I would say: cause a little trouble; it’s good for you!”
All this was within a week of Angelina Jolie under going a preventive cancer surgery wherein her Ovaries and Fallopian tubes were removed as there were possibilities of early signs of cancer. Such fighting spirit, determination, love, empathy for the human race & simple act of giving is not only rare but even more so in people with power and fame. She deserves not only an applaud but my heart salutes her soul & her gesture of giving back, keeping her own worries at bay!
Different is indeed GOOD! This is for all the misfits out there, keep that chin always up and take on the WORLD!
