10 Must Visit Places In Mumbai For The Fashion Conscious

Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay is one of the largest cities in India and it is one of the best cosmopolitan places to visit or stay permanently in. They say, once you have lived in Mumbai, you will want to come back to it no matter where you are in life and trust me this stands true for me personally. Mumbai, is my BAE, MUM-BAE!! But on a serious note, other than being born in this city, this is my home, my city that stands tall through everything, keeping us Mumbaikars together just like it’s busy streets. Ask any Mumbaikar about their favourite things to do in the city and street shopping at some of the most well known hot spots will be the answer. Many of you already know that I believe in dressing as per your own personal style and wish. Now these outfits can be shopped from anywhere you like or prefer and doesn’t necessarily have to be branded. Fashion doesn’t mean spending your money on the big brands or on what everyone else is wearing. In fact, it’s the other way around. Many of you still see, accessories, clothes, shoes and bags from my OOTD’s, being shopped from local boutiques or from open street bazaars and it still looks as good. Carry your style with confidence ladies, that’s what matters.

So finally as the year’s about to end, I decided to sum up for all my beautiful fashionistas out there, my top favourite street shopping fashion hot spots from Mumbai. This article will give all you shoppers, who love, live and breathe fashion or future travellers a peek into my city along with the highlight of every single nook and corner of this fashion paradise. So gear up ladies and gents as I present to you My 10 Must Visit Places In Mumbai For The Fashion Conscious :

Hill Road, Bandra West – You guys know already I am a Bandra baby and boy have I thrown all my pocket money at once at the Hill Road, street hawkers back in college?? Guess the answer, no points for guessing! Hill Road street stalls will always be buzzing with shops on the footpath to almost on the main road with fashionable and quirky accessories, footwear, bags and your western to ethnic wear.

Majority of the outfits will be priced between Rs. 100/- to Rs. 400/- but feel free to use you bargaining power to get it at Rs. 50/- Almost all my friends from the states request me for the colourful antique bangles that are found on Hill Road (you will spot hawkers on bicycles or on foot). This is every fashionistas paradise, plus you get all your everyday wear accessories + outfits at such dirt-cheap costs.

Linking Road, Bandra West This street market is just a 5 minutes drive from the railway station. Since it is bang opposite two of the most popular colleges in the city (National & MMK), this lane will always be flooded with students. The lane extends from both sides, which again is a two-way street hawkers paradise! Try your hands at some of the comfiest and stylish palazzos here starting at just Rs. 150/- Don’t miss out on the tiny shops right at the back of the footpaths since they too sell shoes, bags, hair accessories and jewellery at a steal. Skip being here on Saturday-Sunday to avoid the extra crowd and get here early to shop at your pace. This is hands down one busy street with shoppers flocking from all part of Mumbai!

Manish Market, Andheri West – If you love ethnic wear like sarees and Punjabi dress materials (traditional wear for the women) then this is your go-to place in Mumbai. Right from the outdoor street stalls with laces, scarves, dupattas, dress materials, etc, so much more will catch your attention when you get here. Make sure to enter the narrow-laned actual Manish Market which leads you to small stores selling ethnic accessories to lingerie, nightgowns and more!

Don’t forget to wear your bargaining hat here and start with as low as Rs. 200/- for 1 dupatta or one kurti! If you love henna designs on your hands or want a small henna tattoo, feel blessed coz you will spot 4 men sitting right in the center of Manish Market by the footpath. It’s truly an experience.

Lokhandwala Market, Andheri West – Few minutes away from Manish Market, lies this fashionable outdoor bazaar for everything fashion related. They have stores + outdoor stalls on both sides of the long road which can be covered in 30 minutes. Right from men’s and women’s wear to first edition of lot of the luxury brands, you will get to witness a different world here. Plus the best part is that these shops are open till late especially on weekends. On the down side, they do not like to bargain that much.

Colaba Causeway, Colaba Shopping is one of the main reasons why people travel town side to Colaba Causeway. Both streets on either sides have buildings from the British rule and as you stroll through the open fashion bazaars, you will spot so many fashionable boutiques, street clothes at throwaway prices and some of the best bags and purses, ideal for gifting or for personal use.

Also, thanks to the Bandra – Worli Sea Link reaching North Mumbai from the Western Express Highway is super easy and quick. Make sure to shop for some of the best exquisite furnishings and feel free to bargain.

Fashion Street, Marine Lines – This is the one open street bazaar where you will find everything in one place right from kids wear to men’s and women’s fashion.

You will see more than 200 plus stalls and vendors here that sell jeans to joggers, dresses to jewellery, ethnic wear to blazers, name anything in fashion you can think of and you will find here.

More than 80% of the stalls comprise of clothes and the remaining ones for accessories and antiques. The unique thing about this place is, you can even find designer pieces here if you look around really well. Export quality products are available at slashed prices and this is their USP.

Heera Panna, Worli – Say hello to one of the biggest and most well known AC shopping mall called “Heera Panna” in Worli. This lies bang opposite Haji Ali and you will find great mobile accessories, home décor pieces, men’s and women’s wear, watches, bags, shoes and so much more all under one roof. The prices are slightly on a high end since they also have branded clothes but make sure to slash the prices by half, especially if it is the first copy. When we were small, dropping by here shopping with mum was a ritual after enjoying a bowl of fresh fruit cream at the Haji Ali Juice Centre.

Nakhuda Mohalla, Mumbadevi Area – This my friends is a heaven for all things ethnic right from dress materials to stitched suits and sarees that are ideal for weddings and functions or festivals. My friend got for herself a complete hand embroidered ghagra-choli for Rs. 3,000/- only, which was priced at Rs. 25,000/- at one of the leading stores in Mumbai.

On seeing the pics, trust me I couldn’t tell the difference. Say hello to some of the most authentic hand woven desi pieces!! You also get to buy material per meter.

Crawford Market, Near Shivaji Terminus – This has to be one of South Mumbai’s most favourite and oldest markets to ever exist. After all, this has been Mumbai’s first ever-wholesale market till 1966. You will find some of the quirkiest home décor options, lights, carpets, nightwear, dress materials and ready-made outfits at unbeatable prices.

I also love the small accessories stalls that have some of the best antique and metal accessories priced at Rs. 50/- onwards.

High Street Phoenix, Lower Parel On the open ground of the mall, you will find some of the best and most unique fashion exhibitions from the locals to known designers showcasing their products in the city. This area is right in the middle of a huge Shopping complex with some of the biggest brands in the world.

Drop by here on weekends (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) and you will most probably find a live band playing for you along with small stalls selling all things fashionable. Make sure to get your hand on some of the best-handcrafted products from juttis to bags and kurtis.
